Effective Coupon Marketing – Think Big
Two recent coupons deals offered on our site:
- 1) a health food store, offering ”Come In and Get a 50% Off Coupon for Any Vitamin or health supplement!”
- 2) an auto repair dealer, offer, “Receive a Free Battery Test and 20% Off Any Recommended Service.”
In both of these coupon cases, the merchant or store owner is using an aggressive coupon strategy– not just offering a coupon for an exclusive audience, or a small savings on a “soon to be out of stock” item, but sweetening the offer so much that anyone in their right mind wouldn’t hesitate to visit them and take advantage of their deal. They want your business and they’re ready to prove it to you!
At their most basic, coupons can be thought of as a means of price negotiation with a customer. Most consumers are not used to haggling with a business about it’s prices; most people view prices as take-them-or-leave-them. By offering coupons to existing and potential customers, the business is encouraging the more cost conscious buyers and bargain hunters out there to give them a try. Some consumers need extra motivation when trying something new and coupons are the perfect “foot in the door” to get them hooked on your great offerings. So you give up a little bit one time, but you may have potentially found the right incentive to gain a new, loyal customer.
